Cranberries
£2.10
Cranberries are a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs or trailing vines in the subgenus Oxycoccus of the genus Vaccinium. In Britain, cranberry may refer to the native species Vaccinium oxycoccos, while in North America, cranberry may refer to Vaccinium macrocarpon.
Enjoyed fresh, dried and as a juice, cranberries are a useful source of iron, potassium and vitamin C. They are especially rich in protective plant compounds that may help prevent UTIs and support a healthy immune system.
In India alone, the fruit is known differently in different places. For instance, while in the Hindi-speaking belt, people call it ‘karonda’ and ‘jungli karonda’, in Tamil it is known as ‘chirukila’, ‘sirukilaa’ and ‘kalakai’.
